REVIEW ASSOCIATION BETWEEN ESOPHAGEAL CANCER AND HOT FOOD AND BEVERAGE HABITS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: This review aims to systematically evaluate the association between hot beverage and food consumption habits and the risk of esophageal cancer. Methods: We conducted the review by synthesizing and analyzing data from studies. Results: The meta-analysis showed that drinking hot tea was significantly associated with an increased risk of esophageal cancer. This association was particularly strong for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Conclusions: Habitual consumption of hot beverages and food significantly increased the risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, especially in Asian and South American populations. Changing dietary habits (including reducing the temperature of consumption, eating slowly, and avoiding overeating) is an important potential preventive measure for esophageal cancer.
