Abstract

Objective: Identify the clinical characteristics and causes of vestibular disorders. Patients and Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 70 patients who were examined and underwent vestibular assessment, including Videonystagmography (VNG) and video Head Impulse Test (vHIT), at Hue Central Hospital from August 1st to 31st, 2023.
Results: The mean age of the sample was 54 ± 13.1 years, with the highest percentage (45.7%) in the age group of 40 to 60 years. Women predominated in the study. Dizziness had trigger factors in 64.3% of the cases. Peripheral vestibular disorders accounted for 65.7%, while central vestibular disorders accounted for 31.4%. The most common peripheral vestibular disorder was Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) at 67.5%, followed by Ménière's disease at 21.7%. The most common central vestibular disorder was vestibular migraine at 77.3%. There was a significant difference in the onset of symptoms of vertigo and dizziness between the groups with peripheral and central causes. The percentage of vestibular function impairment was 16.3 ± 9.2 in the peripheral causes group and 4.3 ± 3.5 in the central causes group. Conclusion: Vestibular assessment using VNG and vHIT is essential for examining and diagnosing vestibular disorders.
