Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: Studying about the characteristics of olfactory dysfunction in patients diagnosed with chronic rhinosinusitis and treated surgically at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Bach Mai Hospital. Materials and Methods: This research was conducted on 50 patients were diagnosed with chronic rhinosinusitis and treated surgically at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology - Bach Mai Hospital. Result: In the group of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis, olfactory dysfunction accounted for 66%. Among them, severe olfactory dysfunction are mainly found in: chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps with 52%, mainly nasal polyps of grade II or higher. Improvement of olfactory dysfunction after surgery: After 1 month, 44/50 patients (88%) had no olfactory dysfunction and after 3 months, 46/50 patients (92%) had no olfactory dysfunction. Conclusion: In the group of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis, olfactory dysfunction accounted for 66%. Among them, severe olfactory dysfunction are mainly found in: chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps with 52%, mainly nasal polyps of grade II or higher. Improvement of olfactory dysfunction after surgery: After 1 month, 44/50 patients (88%) had no olfactory dysfunction and after 3 months, 46/50 patients (92%) had no olfactory dysfunction
