THE CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND STROBOSCOPY ASSESSMENT OF VOCAL FOLDS IN HOARSE PATIENTS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY FROM 09/2020 TO 06/2021

Abstract
Background: Hoarseness is one of common symptoms of vocal pathologies. Video- stroboscopy is most useful in identifying laryngeal pathologies of the vocal fold cover.
Objectives: To assess clinical pictures and videolaryngostroboscropy findings in dysphonic patients. Study design and setting: A cross-sectional descriptive and prospective study on adult patients who had complained of dysphonia and received treatment at Otolaryngology Clinic of Hospital of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results: From 9/2020 to 6/2021, A total of 74 patients were enrolled in this study with a mean age of 48,2 ± 13,03 years. There were 46 males and 28 females. Vocal nodule is the lesion with highest percentage (36.5%). Complete (27%), posterior gap (26%) and hourglass shape (16%) were observed with highest ratio. Most of vocal lesions had diminished amplitude (72%) and mucosal wave (63.5%) and these parameter had significant relationship (p<0,001).
The free edge of vocal fold were rough in 72% patients. Conclusion: Stroboscopic parameters like glottic closure, amplitude, and mucosal wave pattern were studied and statistically significant relationship with different vocal pathologies were obtained.
