SCOPING REVIEW OF POSTERIOR NASAL NERVE NEUROLYSIS FOR THE TREATMENT OF RHINITIS

Abstract

Objective: To review studies on the outcomes and safety of PNNN in rhinitis treatment. Methods: Clinical studies published from January 2017 to December 2025 were retrieved from PubMed, Embase, Google Scholar, and the Hanoi Medical University Library. Results: Of 471 identified studies, 15 met inclusion criteria. PNNN significantly improved rhinitis symptoms, particularly rhinorrhea and nasal congestion. Significant rTNSS improvement was reported in 10 studies involving 626 patients, with 2 studies showing superior outcomes versus controls. RQLQ, mini-RQLQ, NOSE, and SNOT-22 scores also improved after treatment. TNSS improvement rates ranged from 59.1% to 87.8%, while MCID achievement rates for TNSS and RQLQ ranged from 73%–100% and 75%–100%, respectively. A total of 172 adverse events were reported across 850 procedures, mostly mild and transient. Conclusion: PNNN is a minimally invasive, safe, and effective treatment for refractory rhinitis, improving symptoms and quality of life.
