Abstract

ABSTRACT

Background: Tinnitus is a common symptom in patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss and may significantly affect quality of life. Objective: To evaluate tinnitus severity in patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss treated at the National Otorhinolaryngology Hospital. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 75 patients with idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss treated from February 2025 to July 2025. Among them, 58 patients with tinnitus were evaluated using the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI). Results: The mean age was 46.43 ± 15.18 years and females accounted for 55.2%. The mean THI score was 77.22 ± 21.15. Catastrophic tinnitus accounted for the highest proportion (60.3%), followed by severe tinnitus (27.6%). No statistically significant differences in THI scores were found according to age, sex, vertigo, comorbidities, or hearing loss severity (p > 0.05). However, THI scores differed significantly among audiogram configurations (p = 0.026).
