OVERVIEW OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF PROTON PUMP INHIBITORS IN THE TREATMENT OF LARYNGOPHTHALMOLYTIC REFLUX
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objective: To provide an overview of the effectiveness and dosage regimens of proton pump inhibitors in the treatment of laryngophral reflux, and to analyze predictive factors of treatment response to optimize clinical practice. Methods: A scoping review. Results: Studies show that proton pump inhibitors are significantly effective in improving reflux symptom index and physical score; however, the effectiveness between once-daily and twice-daily doses was not significantly different in some reports. Combining proton pump inhibitors with adjunctive measures such as alginate, upper esophageal sphincter compression devices, or motility-enhancing medications shows potential for improving treatment outcomes. Conclusion: Proton pump inhibitors remain the first-line treatment for laryngopharyngeal reflux, but individualized dosage and duration of treatment (typically 8 weeks to 6 months) are necessary based on the patient's specific reflux phenotype.
