Abstract

Objective:To assess the initial outcomes of cochlear implant (CI) surgery and the auditory recovery of the patients underwent CI surgery at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 17 cases undergoing multichannel cochlear implantation at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital from December 2020 to July 2025.Results: The youngest patient was 19 months old and the oldest was 72 months old. All patients (100%) had prelingual hearing loss. Computed tomography findings showed that 29.4% of patients had poorly pneumatized mastoid bones, while 70.6% were well pneumatized; 35.3% presented with anteriorly displaced sigmoid sinus; one patient (5.8%) had early facial nerve bifurcation; 29.4% had bony ridges or soft tissue obscuring the round window; and 5.8% had inner ear malformations. Regarding surgical outcomes, the complication rate was 11.8%, consisting of moderate postoperative bleeding. Intraoperative IFT impedance was good in 82.3% of cases, moderate in 11.8%, and poor in 5.9%. The proportion of children who could distinguish all six Ling sounds after 3 and 6 months was 76.5% and 94.1%, respectively. Conclusion: The initial results of cochlear implantation surgery have shown encouraging success.
