EVALUATION OF THE TONSILLECTOMY’S RESULTS BY USING MONOPOLAR ELECTROCAUTERY AT QUYNH LUU GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics and evaluate the outcomes of tonsillectomy using the monopolar microdissection needle technique at Quỳnh Lưu General Hospital.
Methods: A cross-sectional interventional study was conducted on 209 patients diagnosed with chronic tonsillitis who underwent monopolar tonsillectomy from October 2024 to September 2025. Data on patient demographics, operative time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative pain, and recovery time were collected and analyzed.
Results: Males accounted for 63.2% of cases; the 6–15-year age group was the most common (78%). Grade III tonsillar hypertrophy was predominant (67.5%). Blood loss during surgery was less than 5 ml in 88.5% of patients. The mean Wong–Baker pain score was highest on the first postoperative day and gradually decreased thereafter. The mean time to resume a normal diet was 10.4 days. No major postoperative complications were observed.
Conclusions: Monopolar microdissection tonsillectomy is an effective and safe technique that minimizes intraoperative bleeding, shortens surgical time, and facilitates early recovery, making it suitable for use in district-level hospitals.
