Abstract

SUMMARY

Objective: Evaluate the results of treatment of deviated nasal septum and pneumatization of the middle turbinate in endoscopic sinus surgery at Military Hospital 7A

Subjects and methods of research: Patients with indications for septoplasty-middle turbinate surgery at Military Hospital 7A in 2022. Research method: prospective, descriptive cross-sectional study

Results and discussion: Gender: the ratio of men is twice that of women. The average age is 45.25 years old. The rate of deviated septum on the right side is twice that of the left side. Pneumatization of the middle turbinate on both sides accounts for 41.7%, pneumatization of the middle turbinate on one side accounts for 58.3%, and simultaneous pneumatization of the middle turbinate on both sides accounts for 47.2%. In this study, 66.7% of cases had concomitant chronic sinusitis with indications for surgery at the same time. The reason for visiting the hospital was headache, which accounted for the highest proportion of 52.8%, followed by nasal congestion at 30.6%. Postoperative headache symptoms decreased by 57.9% on the 3rd postoperative day and decreased to 10.0% after 10 days of surgery. The number of patients with nasal congestion decreased by 27.3% on the 3rd postoperative day and decreased by 90.9% on the 10th postoperative day compared to the time of admission. Postoperative complications were early postoperative bleeding at 2.8%, which was treated by placing a merocele booster.

Conclusion: Patients had reduced symptoms of headache and nasal congestion after septoplasty-middle turbinate surgery.

Keywords: septoplasty, middle turbinate pneumatization
