Abstract
Objective: Glomus tympanicum tumors are rare, and can be confused with others common ear diseases such as acute middle ear infection, otitis media with effusion, ear trauma... So we do this report to help make an accurte diagnosis and choose proper surgical approach by transcanal endoscopy or microscopy. Method: Report two cases of glomus tympanicum tumors are operated by transcanal endoscopic excision in Can Tho ENT hospital. Results: Two cases are diagnosed by history of unilateral of tinnitus, ear fullness, progressive hearing loss. A red bulging, pulsating mass behind an intact tympanic membrane on endoscopy. CT.Scan showing presence of mass in mesotympanum, epitympanum, hypotympanum, and no eroding jugular bulb. The patients are operated by transcanal endoscopic excision without embolization.Ajter treatment, the patients did not suffer tinnitus and ear fullness any more but they got hearing loss because the eroding incus bone was removed in the surgery. Conclusions: Glomus tympanicum tumors are accurate diagnosed by history and endoscopy. Ctscan showing: the presence of eroding jugular bulb is the most important thing to distinguish glomus tympanicum and glomus jugu- lare, and asses the extending of the tumor to make a good surgical planning.
