Abstract

Objective: Evaluate the outcomes of intratympanic corticosteroid injection in the treatment of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) at Thai Binh Medical University Hospital.
Patient and method: A case series study included 58 patients with SSNHL who underwent intratympanic corticosteroid injection at Thai Binh Medical University Hospital from 2019 to 2024.
Results: Among patients with mild hearing loss complete recovery rate was 88.2%. Those with moderate and severe hearing loss had partial recovery rates of 66.1% and 46.2%, respectively. Profound hearing loss showed no improvement in 50% of cases. Type A, B, and D audiograms demonstrated complete recovery rates of 85.7%, 36.0%, and 42.9% respectively, while type E audiograms showed no improvement in 55.6% of cases.
Presenting to the hospital within 7 days resulted in a higher complete recovery rate of 37.0%. The primary complication was post-injection pain. Conclusion: Intratympanic corticosteroid injection is a safe technique. Mild hearing loss, audiogram types A, B, or D, and arrival within 7 days contributed to better treatment outcomes.
