Abstract
Laryngeal cancer and hypopharyngeal cancer are increasing in Vietnam. Proper patient care, following the correct procedures before and after surgery can help patients reduce side effects, improve their physical condition, thereby enhancing immunity, making treatment more effective. The project was carried out with the objective: Results of patient care after total laryngectomy at the Oncology and Head and Neck Surgery Center, Central ENT Hospital. Research subjects and methods: Descriptive study of a cluster of cases on 43 patients after total laryngectomy at the Central ENT Hospital from January to October 2023. Results: 48.84% of patients were hospitalized for 10-15 days. The majority of patients had a lower BMI after surgery compared to before surgery (Before surgery, the rate of underweight patients with hypopharyngeal cancer was 20.93%, while after surgery, this rate decreased to 25.58%). The level of pain gradually decreased over time. The first days of patients (NB) eating enough according to their needs were lower than the last days, this rate gradually increased over time from day 1 (76.7%) to day 7 (100%) of NB eating enough according to their needs. NB with post-operative complications all accounted for a low rate of less than 10%, only 1 NB accounting for 2.33% had dysphagia complications. There was a correlation between age group and the number of days in hospital.
