Main Article Content
Abstract
Hypopharyngeal cancer has a high incidence rate. In Vietnam, the disease ranks third among head and neck cancers. Care for hypopharyngeal cancer patients must be given special attention. At the Central Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, there is currently no research on care for hypopharyngeal cancer patients who have received adjuvant chemotherapy. Therefore, we conducted a research project with the objective of: "The results of care for hypopharyngeal cancer patients with adjuvant chemotherapy". Research method: Prospective study of 22 patients treated at the Central Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, from March to October 2023. Results: The physical condition (based on BMI) of patients after 3 cycles has almost no change. The largest proportion is patients with normal BMI 81.82% of CKI and CKII, this proportion in CKII increased to 86.36%. The majority of patients lost <5kg, accounting for 95.45%. No patients lost 5-10kg, only 1 patient, equivalent to 4.55%, lost >10kg before starting treatment, and only 4.55% of patients needed nutritional supplements through a gastric stoma. In cycle I, the number of patients with fatigue symptoms was high (81.82%) and gradually decreased in the following cycles. Other symptoms also tended to decrease in the following cycles. The number of patients with diarrhea was the least, only 9.09% in cycle I, and the number of patients with constipation was higher, at 36.36% in cycle I. 100% of patients had reduced symptoms of sore throat and difficulty swallowing after chemotherapy. 100% of patients lost <5kg after 3 cycles of chemotherapy.
