Abstract
Objective: Describe clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients with chronic otitis media. Evaluate the results of simple tympanic membrane repair using the intra-canal method. Subjects and methods: Descriptive study of a series of cases with self-controlled clinical intervention before and after on 49 patients with chronic otitis media, who underwent simple tympanic membrane repair using the intra-canal method, at Hai Phong International General Hospital and Thai Nguyen Central Hospital. Results: Average age 45.1 ± 15.6 years; female / male = 1.33/1; 100% had intermittent ear discharge, of which 61.2% was thin pus and 32.7% was mucoid pus. The perforation could be of any size from small to subtotal of the tympanic membrane, most of the tympanic membrane was in a stable state without inflammation. Regarding hearing, 42.9% had no hearing loss, 30.6% had mild hearing loss, 18.4% had moderate hearing loss, 8.2% had moderate to severe hearing loss. 100% of the cases had closed tympanic membranes after 3 months of follow-up; 55.1% had moderate rhine recovery; 10% had fair recovery, 34.7% had no change, and there were no audiological failures. Conclusion: Transcanal myringoplasty gave good anatomical and functional recovery results.
