THE IMPACT OF BPPV ON PATIENTS' QUALITY OF LIFE (QOL) USING THE DIZZINESS HANDICAP INVENTORY (DHI) ASSESSMENT
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives: Research was conducted to evaluate the impact of BPPV on patients' quality of life (QoL) using the dizziness handicap questionnaire (DHI) assessment scale.
Methods: This is a prospective descriptive study on 150 patients have been diagnosed BPPV
at Tam Anh General Hospital from Dec 2023 to Sep 2024. VisualEyes™ EyeSeeCam
software was utilised for automatic analysis of the nystagmus recordings and for diagnosing BPPV. The BPPV patients completed Vietnamese-translated DHI. The DHI used for assessing the impact of dizziness on the QoL of patients.
Results: The study sample was comprised of 150 patients, of which 107 were female and 43 were male. The mean age of patients was 52.7 years (± 12.8). The posterior SCC was affected in most cases (70.4%), horizontal SCC in 20.,4%, and anterior SCC in 9.2 %.
Using the DHI survey, most BPPV patients were classified at the severe level (68.7%). In the sub-scale DHI, physical findings were the most compromised aspects, followed by the functional, and the emotional aspects.
Conclusions: BPPV patients had severely affected QoL on the DHI scale in terms of physical, emotional, and functional aspects.
