Abstract

Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics and audiograms of patients with sudden hearing loss at the Ho Chi Minh City Ear-Nose-Throat Hospital from 2022 to 2023, and to correlate the audiogram shapes with related factors. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on patients who visited and received treatment at the Ho Chi Minh City Ear-Nose-Throat Hospital from November 2022 to July 2023. Results: There were 183 patients (90 males, 93 females); the average age was 49.6 years; 84.2% of patients were admitted due to hearing loss with an onset time of 4-7 days (36.6%). Patients primarily presented with unilateral hearing loss (89.1%) along with symptoms such as tinnitus (82.5%) and vertigo (8.7%). The most common audiogram shape at admission was type A, with mild hearing loss being the most prevalent (45.5%). Conclusion: Physicians can incorporate additional information on audiogram shape classification to suggest the location of cochlear lesions and to develop an effective treatment plan from the outset.
