Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the results of applying narrow band imaging endoscopy combined with CO2 laser endoscopic microsurgery in diagnosis and treatment of early stage hypopharyngeal and laryngeal carcinoma. Methods: A prospective study with clinical intervention was conducted on 24 patients with early stage hypopharyngeal and laryngeal cancer. All patients were detected malignant lesions by narrow band imaging endoscopy, treated with CO2 laser endoscopic microsurgery and followed up after reatment. Results: the mean age was 61.2 ± 10.6; the rate of hoarseness was 70,8%, Tla tumor stage was 66,7%, IPCL type V was 70,8%, marginal tumor control was 87,5%.
There was of 23/24 cases with no complication during operation. The rate of extensive granuloma was 66.7% in the first month and of anterior commissure adhesion was 20.8% in the third month. Conclusion: Narrow band imaging endoscopy was an valuable tool in screening for early-stage hypopharyngeal and laryngeal cancer. CO2 laser endoscopic microsurgery was an effective methods. The rate of intra - and post operation complication was small, preserving the maximum function of speech, breathing and swallowing.
