Abstract

This narrative review aims to describe the factors associated with the recurrence of sinonasal inverted papilloma following surgical treatment. A literature review was conducted in English and Vietnamese peer-reviewed journals from January 2000 to December 2024. Searching in Hanoi Medical University library, using Pubmed database with keywords related to factors associated with recurrence of sinonasal inverted papilloma after surgery. A total of 16 articles met the inclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. Factors associated with recurrence were analyzed including age, gender, geography, follow-up time, smoking, history of pre-surgery, histopathology, HPV infection, tumor attachment site, tumor stage according to the Krouse classification, surgical approach, and ck14 expression. The findings showed that factors associated with SIP recurrence included longer follow-up time, smoking, history of prior surgery, dysplasia, HPV infection, tumor attachment sites in the frontal sinus, medial and anterior walls of the maxillary sinus, advanced tumor stage (T3 and T4) according to the Krouse classification, use of external surgical approaches, and decreased ck14 expression.
